Official Smyth County Contacts
Choose the court that handled the case. Virginia's public Online Case Information System can help locate available adult criminal and traffic case entries, but it is not a warrant-status service.
- Smyth Circuit Court Clerk: call 276-782-4044 about felony indictments, circuit orders, trials, and appeals. The Circuit Court handles felony trials and keeps circuit case files.
- Smyth General District Court Clerk: call 276-782-4047 about adult misdemeanor, traffic, preliminary-hearing, and town or county ordinance cases. Marion, Chilhowie, and Saltville police calendars appear through Smyth GDC; these towns do not have separate municipal courts.
- Smyth Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Clerk: call 276-782-4052 about matters in that court. Juvenile, family, support, and related records have special confidentiality limits, so some information is not public.
- Smyth County Sheriff's Warrant/Civil Process Division: call the Sheriff's main/non-emergency number, 276-782-4056, for warrant-related questions and service information. The office is at 626 S Main St in Marion. The division serves criminal warrants and capiases issued by courts; call first to confirm the right contact.
For a public-records request, use Smyth County's FOIA information and request process. Virginia FOIA generally requires an initial response within five working days; fees may apply, and an advance deposit can be requested when estimated costs exceed $200. A records request does not replace a direct court or Sheriff status inquiry.
